How to get your title in Texas

If you have a car to sell, you will need to have your title to do so. If you don't have it, we can help!

If your car title is lost or destroyed, there are a few ways to get a copy in Texas. You can go to the nearest TxDMV service center to apply in person or you can submit paper work by mail. The process is not difficult to follow, but it will require you take some time and care to do so. If you’d like to sell your car to us, we will need you to obtain a title. Getting your title in person

Here are the steps to applying for a certified copy of title in person:

  1. Visit the nearest TxDMV regional service center.
  2. Complete Form VTR-34, Application for a Certified Copy of Title.
    All recorded owners must sign the form and provide photo ID (or a copy) at time of application.

  3. Provide a valid photo ID and $5.45 fee by check, cash or money order (no debit or credit card accepted). An agent of the owner or lienholder must also provide a letter of signature authority on original letterhead, a business card or a copy of the agent’s employee ID.
  4. Call us when you have the title and we’ll arrange a time to pick up your car and pay you cash.

Getting your title by mail

Here are the steps to applying for a certified copy of title by mail:

  1. Complete Form VTR-34, Application for a Certified Copy of Title.

    All recorded owners must sign the form. Enclose a copy of the photo ID for all owners and $2 mail-in fee by check, cashier’s check or money order payable to the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. An agent of the owner or lienholder must also provide a letter of signature authority on original letterhead, a business card or a copy of the agent’s employee ID.
  2. Mail the application to:

  3. Call us when you have the title and we’ll arrange a time to pick up your junk car and pay you cash.
